Why do humans believe stories?

Stories organise memory, identity, expectation and cooperation. Humans can act together around ideas that are not physical objects—laws, promises, institutions and nations—because people represent them, communicate them and respond to them. Their effects are real even when their existence depends on shared recognition.

EarthSun does not claim

That every institution is unreal, equal in value, or immune from evidence.
